If you're fortunate enough to on an African Safari, you're in for a treat! There are so many amazing animals that you get see up close and personal in their natural habits. We've all see photos of many of them, but seeing them in person is entirely different. That's why we have compiled a list of 20 amazing animals you may get to see on your African Safari, so you can get excited and prepared for what your about to witness!

1. African Elephants

These elephants are huge and usually roam in herds. You may be able to get pretty close to them and even feed one if you’re lucky.

2. Lions

Everyone knows lions are the "Kings of the Jungle!” They are amazing creatures to see in person. You’ll often find them lounging around in the shade. Just be careful to stay safely on the safari vehicle.

3. Leopards

Leopards and their distinctive spotted fur are commonly found on safaris. These big cats are great climbers, hopefully you get to see one leap out of a tree!

4. Rhinoceroses

Rhinos are endangered, but you may be lucky enough to see one. Their impressive horns are a sight to see. You would not want one charging towards you, but from a distance they are incredible creatures.

5. Cape Buffalo

The Cape Buffalo is actually one of the most dangerous animals in all of Africa. This is due to the fact that they roam in large herds and have very unpredictable emotions. Stay far away!

6. Giraffes

It’s hard to believe how long Giraffes necks are until you see them up close. They are natures tallest mammal and quite unique looking. If you’re lucky enough to witness giraffes fighting, the way they attack with their necks is quite amazing.

Zebras can be found all over Africa. Everybody knows them by their famous black-and-white striped fur. They roam in large herds of several different animal species. Very majestic creatures.

8. Hippopotamuses

Hippos make look cute and cuddly despite their massive size, however they are very territorial animals. You’ll most likely get to spot them relaxing in the rivers, but if you catch them protecting their children it’s amazing to see.

Everyone wants to see Cheetahs flying by them at full speed. You may just get to see that happen. For the fastest land animals on the planet their agility is just as amazing.

Hyenas have been poorly portrayed through pop culture, but are actually quite cool animals. Due to their smaller size they hunt in packs and scavenge for left overs. Your best chance is seeing them at night, when they're more active.

11. Wildebeests

Wildebeests are beautiful animals that migrate annually. You should be able to see thousands of them crossing the plains as you drive by.
