The 20 Most Commonly Stolen Hotel Items Everyone Nabs

Guests Love To Grab These Hotel Items

How good of a hotel guest would you say you are? Tidying up the space and cleaning up after yourself is one thing, but being respectful and honest is another. You might not find it surprising to hear people often steal slippers or stationary, but what about paintings and light bulbs? Find out if you're a good hotel guest by seeing all the crazy things people often steal from their rooms.

1. Pillows

While you probably have better ones at home, it's not uncommon for hotel workers to find rooms with missing pillows after guests check out. They're easy to stuff in your luggage, making them a prime object for taking home. We're not sure you'd still want to nab them after thinking about how many people have used them though.

2. Blankets

It seems like people just love stealing from hotel beds! Blankets are another common item stolen from hotels, but how people do it, we'll never know. This object is considerably bigger, so unless you're bringing a suitcase with you purely for this purpose, we're not sure how people get away with it so effortlessly.

3. Hangers

Can you ever have too many hangers at home? That's probably what most guests are thinking as they stuff these hotel hangers into their suitcase. Whether they're high quality, look nice, or you're simply running low at home, there seem to be multiple reasons why people love taking this item with them as they're leaving.

4. Bath Towels

It's a bit weird thinking about how people love stealing hotel towels considering how many guests have used them. We know they've been through a wash, but still. We definitely don't think it's the best souvenir you could be taking home from your trip either.

5. Dishes

Some people seem to have stealing on their mind as they're enjoying a delicious tray of room service. Dishes tend to go missing pretty often from hotels, though it really just sounds like a bad idea. Not only is it the wrong thing to do, do you really want to carry something that fragile around? We're not sure it'd last the plane ride!

6. Bathrobes

There's nothing more comforting than getting to your hotel after a long flight and changing into their bathrobes to take a long nap. It seems people love it so much, they feel a need to take them home! We're pretty sure you could buy something affordable but even more cozy with your own money.

7. Paintings

What do you think you're doing taking paintings off the walls? Strangely, hotel artwork is another thing that often gets stolen from hotels. We're pretty sure no one is hanging up Picasso's greatest works, so really, people are spending far too much effort committing a crime for a $10 painting.

8. Table Pieces

If the walls aren't safe, neither are the tables. Many hotels love adding a bit of personality to the rooms by providing small pieces of table decor. And we suppose it's a good choice given how many people steal them because they love them so much! From little vases to bowls, everything seems to be fair game for thieves.

9. Remote Controls

Now this is certainly an odd one. What people are doing with stolen remote controls is beyond us. Without the technology its controlling, is there really any purpose for it? It just sounds like some people can't check out without taking something for themselves first.

10. Coffeemaker

Most hotel rooms will offer a coffeemaker for their guests, providing them with a nice pick-me-up right in the morning. But unfortunately, that's not all that's getting picked up. Hotel workers won't be pleased walking into a room with the coffeemaker missing, but that surprisingly happens more often than you might think.

11. Stationary

Whether you forgot you had it on you or you walked out purposefully with a notepad, pencil, or pen, stationary very commonly gets stolen from hotels. While it technically is there for you to use, we're sure most places don't expect you to leave with it. At least they're not expensive goods to replace!

12. Toilet Paper

You never know when you might need a roll of toilet paper handy! For those who truly believe it, we're not surprised if you've nabbed a roll of toilet paper from a hotel before. Which is surprising, considering they're usually not very high in quality!

13. Batteries

We feel bad for the hotel workers who enter a room only to find nothing is turning on. Looks like they had all their batteries taken! From remotes to machines, some people will take the time to grab every possible battery in the room. To us, that just sounds like a lot of work that'll ruin your relaxation.

14. Hair Dryers

While they're usually attached to the bathroom walls, thieves will always find a way to make it work. As one of the more potentially expensive items in the room, hair dryers have grown to make frequent disappearances.

15. Light Bulbs

We don't really understand the benefit of stealing light bulbs, but it is something that often goes missing in hotels. It's crazy thinking about how people spend time unscrewing every one in the room before making their exit. What profit could they possibly expect from this used item?

16. Bed Sheets

Let's head back to the hotel beds for a moment because we're not done there yet! From taking the sheets to bed covers, everything there is free game. Even if numerous people have slept on it before, that doesn't stop people from stealing them still.

17. Mini Bar Drinks

Most people stay away from the mini bar due to extra costs, but some silly thieves still love taking from it. Hilariously, what they don't realize is anything missing will get tacked on to their overall costs. You can't really call it stealing if you're paying for it at the end of the day!

18. Slippers

While you are taking them without asking, it's actually okay for you to take your hotel slippers home with you. They're meant for you to use and they can't be washed again, which means they'd be unsanitary for reuse. So feel free to grab the disposable hotel slippers if you want - the workers are almost expecting it at this point.

19. Hand Towels

As if the big body towels weren't enough, people have to grab the little guys too. Hand towels are tiny little items that are incredibly easy to pack away. And while hotels definitely don't want you taking them, they're hard to track and usually get stolen anyway.

20. Cutlery

If you thought taking the plates was weird already, how about the cutlery? From forks to spoons, people feel a need to grab everything. So if you're a hotel worker looking to pick up guests' finished room service, if the cutlery is missing, don't expect to see it ever again.
