1. The Stanley, Colorado
If you haven’t heard of the Stanley Hotel, then you probably haven’t read Stephen King’s famous book The Shining. Turns out the hotel is very much real, and it includes plenty of ghost tours as well as creepy underground tunnels to explore. There’s even a piano that plays itself.
2. Jekyll Island Club Resort, Georgia
On one hand, everyone loves a resort. On the other, the name Jekyll doesn’t exactly come with positive associations. Regardless, there’s apparently a 1920s bellman who continues to work at the hotel in his afterlife, with many guests reporting sightings.
3. Hanover Inn Dartmouth, New Hampshire
This inn was originally built in 1780 and seems to have trapped the souls of nine boys who passed away in 1934. To make matters worse, one guest reports accidentally happening across a room where the nine boys and their dates were partying. Turns out the ghosts like to party.
4. The Seelbach Hilton Louisville, Kentucky
Kentucky has way more going for it than the famous fried chicken. In fact, one of the scariest hotels around was built there in 1905, although it didn’t get scary until the untimely passing of a groom and bride. Turns out the couple had some strong feelings about the residence, as they continue to haunt it to this day.
5. Concord’s Colonial Inn, Massachusetts
For those living in Massachusetts, you’ll be thrilled to hear there’s a historical and quite creepy inn nearby. If you want a real scare, try to book room 424, which supposedly has the most activity.

6. Green Park Inn, North Carolina
This hotel knows exactly what it’s doing, going as far as to leave a book in the lobby for guests to record their encounters. So far, plenty of guests report sighting a jilted guest named Laura Green wandering the halls of the third floor.
7. Omni Parker House, Massachusetts
Well, well, well, if it isn’t Massachusetts again! This hotel launched in 1855 and had a good run until the hotel’s owner, Harvey Parker, passed in 1884. Apparently, he was never able to let his work go and continues to haunt the location, with many guests reporting sightings.
8. Boone Tavern Hotel of Berea College, Kentucky
Kentucky strikes again, this time with their equally impressive and historical Boone Tavern Hotel. It’s a famous destination for ghost hunts, as many photographers have caught the ghosts of young boys at the lodging.
9. The Pfister Hotel, Wisconsin
This hotel was once known as the Grand Hotel of the West and was a place of refuge for many famous celebrities and athletes alike. It turns out the original owner, Charles Pfister, was so proud of what he accomplished that he never left and continues to wander to this day.
10. Francis Marion Hotel, South Carolina
Another haunted hotel finds itself in Charleston, South Carolina, where to this day, visitors fret at unexplained night sounds and rummaging staff that seem to be there one minute and gone the next.
11. Omni Mount Washington Resort, New Hampshire
New Hampshire makes another appearance, this time with its grand resort. This hotel has everything you could want—private dining rooms, indoor swimming pools, and, of course, the ghost of a Victorian woman that likes to knock on doors.
12. Admiral Fell Inn, Baltimore
Another historical inn is the one located in Maryland. You should prepare for a long night ahead, as many guests have reported strange occurrences from disembodied knocks to floating sailors wandering about.
13. La Fonda, New Mexico
This hotel has a bit of a tragic history after an incident involving the chief justice of a territorial supreme court. The tragedies followed, as another man couldn’t bear to live after losing a card game. The ghosts that passed away at this hotel now continue to haunt it.
14. Crescent Hotel and Spa, Arkansas
Most people go to spas for comfort and relaxation, which is why the last thing you’d want is a horrific encounter. Well, it turns out there are reports of several guests that checked in but never left. Nowadays, guests report finding people staring at them from the foot of their bed and wandering the halls.
15. The Hollywood Roosevelt, California
Once upon a time in Hollywood, this was a premier hotel that housed famous guests such as the likes of Marilyn Monroe. It turns out some of these actors continue to haunt the dwelling, with many reports of the late Montgomery Clift wandering the halls.
16. Moana Surfrider Westin Resort and Spa, Hawaii
Even the island state of Hawaii has plenty of its own ghosts to contend with. Unfortunately, their claim to fame is the passing of the famous Jane Stanford, who co-founded Stanford University. Considering the suspicious events surrounding her passing, the news was quite scandalous. Nowadays, she is still seen wandering the hotel in search of her room.
17. The Red Lion Inn, Massachusetts
It seems that Massachusetts is a hotbed of activity, with another haunted hotel, one that was originally built in 1773. People have reported seeing ghostly girls holding flowers, as well as a frequent poltergeist in the form of a man in a top hat. For the best scares, try to secure room 301.
18. Hawthorne Hotel, Massachusetts
There really is something going on in Massachusetts. In the terrifying city of Salem itself, this hotel has plenty of correlations to the witch trials that went on. Perhaps that’s why it’s full of ghostly activity.
19. Hotel Monteleone, Louisiana
New Orleans is another beacon for activity, and there’s no better place to experience this than the Hotel Monteleone. Apparently, a maid named Mrs. Clean is said to wander the halls and antagonize guests. Luckily, she supposedly also continues her housekeeping responsibilities. What a considerate ghost.
20. The Emily Morgan, San Antonio, Texas
This hotel is better known as the official “hotel of the Alamo” and served various purposes, from psych ward to morgue. With a history like that, it’s no surprise that it’s teeming with paranormal activity, especially on certain odd-numbered floors.
